Melon – Citron Red Seeded


Citrullus lanatus citroides

An old favourite widely used for jam and pies. Does well even in cooler climates.

Also called the Preserving or Pie Melon, the round 30 cm fruit looks like a round watermelon.

Sow 2 cm deep late spring (cold), September to November (warm), July to February in the tropics.  Sow in groups of 3 with 50 cm between groups, thinning to the strongest after germination. Germinates in 7 – 10 days at 21 deg. C. soil temperature.
