Eggplant – Lebanese Bunching


Solanum melongena

(Asian type). The slim, deep purple fruit are best picked at 15cm – 20cm long. Favoured in the Middle East and Asia. Fruit produced in clusters of four to six.

Requires similar conditions to tomatoes. Do not plant out until soil has warmed up.

Sow seed 1 cm deep under glass, September and October (cold), August to September (temp) and August to  March in the tropics . Plant 75cm apart with 90cm between rows.  Soil must be warm before transplanting. Expect germination in 2 to 3 weeks at 23 deg.C. soil temp. Pick fruit when small to avoid hard seeds and bitter fruit.

CAUTION Seed may be treated with a pre-emergence fungicide. Do not use as stock food. Only for use as SEED for SOWING,
