Well-grown celery requires a constant supply of moisture and food, performing best in well limed soils. For early crops sow under glass but for later sowings outdoor seedbeds are suitable.

Sow seed very shallow (2 mm.) in summer, transplanting 20 cm apart when large enough. Take care not to cover the heartleaves. Keep moist at all times and feed heavily. Expect germination in 10 to 20 days at 20 deg. C. soil temperature.
