Beetroot – Chioggia


Beta vulgaris crassa

Unusual variety with the round red roots having distinctive pink and white rings when cut. A favorite in Italy where its sweet flavour is sought after.

Sow September to January (cold), July to March (temp), AYR (trop), in soil well manured for the previous crop. Sow 1-2cm deep in rows 15cm apart. Thin seedlings out to about 5cm apart, or further for larger roots. Expect germination in 10 to 15 days at 24 deg. C. soil temperature. Feed well and keep well watered in hot weather.
