Beet – Sugar Beet


(Beta vulgaris crassa).

A true Sugar Beet whose leaves are eaten as for Silverbeet and the root is an excellent sugar source and often used for stock feed. Leaves and young roots are delicious. Roots can be huge, and are used as a sugar source.

Sow 1 cm deep, September to January (cold), July to February in warm areas and February to November in the tropics.  Thin to 10 cm. apart. Expect germination in 15 days at 21 deg. C. soil temperature.  Keep well watered and feed heavily.
